SCAFFOLDING
- Intermediate & Advanced (SIA)
Note: Scaffolding Intermediate and Advanced
are combined into the one course.
Purpose
This course is designed for participants to gain the necessary skills
to plan, prepare & complete advanced scaffolding work as prescribed
by the National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High
Risk Work. On completion of this course participants will be
able to select and inspect gear and construct and dismantle hung scaffolds.
Pre requisite
Participants must hold a Scaffolding
- Basic (SB) certificate of competency.
Course Content
The Advanced Scaffolding training plan is based on the Unit of Competencies
within the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF):
UEPOPS201A - Comply with Occupational Health and Safety Policy and
Procedures
UEPOPS216A - Perform Intermediate Scaffolding
UEPOPS303A - Perform Advanced Scaffolding
WorkSafe Western Australia Certification
Legislation in the Workplace - O.S.H. Acts and Regulations; Mines
Safety Inspection Act and Regulations; National Standard for Licensing
Persons Performing High Risk Work; Relevant Australian Standards
reflected in the National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing
High Risk Work.; AS 4576 & AS1576 Pt 1-8; Codes of Practice.
Bends & Hitches - Bowline; clove hitch; timber hitch; rolling
hitch; use of gin wheels.
Plan Work - Site requirements and rules; site hazard identification;
emergency procedures; priorities; scaffold fit for the purpose.
Scaffold Components - Identify scaffold components and use; identify
damaged components.
Tube and Coupler Scaffolds - Suspended; hung.
Minimums and Maximums for Suspended & Hung Scaffolds - Counter levering/counter
weight; tying of scaffolds.
Estimation of Material - Design scaffold/take off quantities; obtain
quantity for scaffold erection.
Practical Training - Erect suspended scaffold.
Dismantle Scaffold and Stow Gear - Dismantle scaffold; stow gear
correctly; tidy area.
Certification
Australia
Competent candidates will be issued with a Statement of Attainment (SA)
and a nationally recognized WorkSafe 60 day interim certificate. WorkSafe
Western Australia will issue a Certificate of Competency within that 60
day period.
Duration
28 hours conducted over 4 days.

• Tube & Coupler scaffold (4 bays – 2 x lifts –
minimum) with access gear.
• Cordage (for bends & hitches)
• Scaffold tools and belts

• Air-conditioned classroom with whiteboard comfortable for 8 trainees.
